Custom Report

Custom Report allows you to preview your data and customize its display before generating the final report. An older classic report generation process, where the data is only visible after the report is completed, is still available though Custom Report is now the default.

With Custom Report, you get the flexibility to:

  • Personalize the report’s structure by selecting and customizing the factoids and data displays.
  • Edit or rearrange listings and factoids to suit your needs.
  • View a preview of the data before finalizing the report.

Details Report are currently available and in future releases, we will extend this capability to other pre-built reports. No special setup is required to use this feature—you should see the new report when creating a Details Report.

Why use Custom Report?

The Custom Report gives you more control over your data presentation. It allows you to focus on the metrics and insights that matter most to your business or team, making it easier to share meaningful reports with stakeholders.

How to customize the Details Report

When using Custom Report, you can customize the following:

1. Factoids

You can choose which factoids you want to include in the report. Factoids are metrics that help you analyze the performance of your content.

2. Report listings or sections

Select the type of listings or sections you want to display in your report. Here are the options available:

  • Top Posts and Top New Posts: Displays the highest performing posts or videos based on a selected metric.
  • Top Authors, Top Sections, and Top Tags: Lists the highest performing authors, sections, or tags by average page views on new posts or average video starts.
  • How People Found Your Content: Shows a breakdown of referral traffic from different sources, such as Social, Search, Other, and Internal referrals.
  • Device Breakdown: Displays where people accessed your content—whether on desktop, mobile, or tablet.
  • Visitor Breakdown: Provides insights on the number of new and returning visitors during the selected time period.
  • Campaigns Breakdown: Shows the impact of marketing campaigns in driving traffic to your content.

3. Layout

Rearrange listings to highlight what’s important or remove parts you don’t need.

How to switch to the classic way of generating reports

If you prefer the old way of creating reports, you can switch back by clicking the Help link in your custom reporting view. Then, click ‘Switch to Classic Report Builder’ to revert to the previous method of generating reports. You will not lose any customizations in the reports you created or the reports generated using the new method, and you can always switch back to the new version.
