# Sentiment Headline

In the top left of the [Overview tab](https://docs.parse.ly/dashboard/overview-tab/),
a brief summary summarizes traffic performance — this is the Sentiment Headline.

**Note**

The Sentiment Headline is visible on Overview when the Time Range Preset is set
to Today in the [Customize Overview](https://docs.parse.ly/dashboard/overview-tab/customize/)
panel, where it can also be turned off entirely.

## Headline wording

Parse.ly uses a set of terms for the Sentiment Headline, depending on traffic volume,
as well as possible reasons behind that traffic.

By default, Parse.ly uses the standard list of terms for the Sentiment Headline.
But tragic news can lead to high site traffic, so the Sentiment Headline uses neutral
terms when Parse.ly detects unfortunate keywords in a site’s top traffic.

| Standard terms | Neutral terms |
| “Exceptional” | “Abnormally high traffic” |
| “Great” | “High traffic” |
| “Very good” | “Busy” |
| “Good” | “Active” |
| “Fine” | “Fine” |
| “Business as usual” | “Business as usual” |
| “Slow” | “Slow” |

## Headline calculations

When calculating how to word the Sentiment Headline, Parse.ly first considers similar
time periods (e.g., Tuesdays from midnight until the current time). Parse.ly also
considers the standard deviation from the normal traffic flow for the current day.
[Using this logic](https://docs.parse.ly/measuring-reporting-performance/calculations/),
the last eight weeks of data are examined. The real-time graph on Overview helps
visualize the Sentiment Headline.
